L3Harris Transports RS-25 Engines for Upcoming Artemis III Mission

L3Harris Technologies, Inc. has delivered the RS-25 engines required for the Artemis III mission, supporting the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) timeline for a 2027 flight. The engines are destined for the Space Launch System (SLS), the heavy-lift launch vehicle utilized for deep space exploration.

NASA is currently modifying its integration strategy by moving to a vertical core-stage assembly process. This procedural change is designed to streamline production workflows as the agency prepares for future missions. The RS-25 engines, previously used on the Space Shuttle program, have been adapted for the SLS configuration to provide the necessary thrust for the rocket’s core stage.

L3Harris serves as a prime contractor in the aerospace and defense sector, operating through segments including Space & Mission Systems. The delivery of these propulsion components represents a key milestone in the hardware supply chain for the Artemis program, which aims to return humans to the lunar surface.

From a market perspective, L3Harris Technologies, Inc. is currently trading at $283.94, reflecting an increase of 2.23% from the previous close of $277.75. The company holds a market capitalization of approximately $52.97 billion and operates within the Industrials sector.

What to watch

  • NASA’s progress on the vertical integration of the core stage and related testing schedules.
  • Future contract announcements regarding engine manufacturing for subsequent Artemis flights.
  • Upcoming earnings reports from L3Harris for segment revenue updates within Space & Mission Systems.
