L3Harris Expands Manufacturing Capacity for THAAD Missile Systems

L3Harris Technologies, Inc. has established a new framework agreement designed to significantly increase the production of propulsion systems for the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) program. The defense contractor stated that this arrangement will enable it to quadruple its manufacturing output for these critical components.

THAAD is a US Army system designed to intercept ballistic missiles. The propulsion systems provide the necessary thrust for the interceptor missiles. The increased production capacity is intended to support higher delivery rates required by the program, addressing the need for more rapid replenishment and stockpiling of these assets.

From a market perspective, L3Harris is currently trading at $270.73, representing a decline of 6.22% from the previous close of $288.70. The company holds a market capitalization of approximately $55.25 billion and operates within the Industrials sector, specifically focusing on Aerospace & Defense. L3Harris organizes its operations into three primary segments: Space & Mission Systems, Communications & Spectrum Dominance, and Missile Solutions, with the new production efforts falling under the latter.

The company provides mission-critical solutions for government and commercial customers globally. This move to scale up propulsion manufacturing aligns with broader industry trends toward modernizing munitions supply chains to meet current demand schedules.

What to watch

  • Timeline for breaking ground on or activating new production lines.
  • Future contract announcements specifying delivery quantities and dollar values.
  • Upcoming earnings reports for updates on the Missile Solutions segment backlog.
