L3Harris Finalizes Sale of Rocketdyne Unit to AE Industrial Partners

L3Harris Technologies, Inc. has finalized the sale of the Rocketdyne business to private equity firm AE Industrial Partners. The transaction, valued at approximately $845 million, marks the completion of the aerospace and defense prime’s divestiture of the rocket propulsion manufacturer.

The move allows L3Harris to sharpen its focus on its core operating segments: Space & Mission Systems (SMS), Communications & Spectrum Dominance (CSD), and Missile Solutions (MSL). By exiting the Rocketdyne line of business, the company continues to optimize its portfolio of mission-critical solutions for government and commercial customers.

Rocketdyne, known for its power and propulsion systems, has been a significant player in the space sector. The transfer of ownership to AE Industrial Partners transitions the unit into the private equity realm, where it will operate independently of L3Harris’s government-focused integrator structure.

Following the news, L3Harris shares saw minor movement in the latest session. The stock closed at $277.86, a decline of 0.55% from the previous close of $279.40. The company currently holds a market capitalization of approximately $55.25 billion.

What to watch

  • Upcoming quarterly earnings reports to assess capital allocation following the divestiture.
  • Future contract awards within L3Harris’s retained CSD and MSL segments.
  • Strategic updates regarding the use of proceeds from the $845 million transaction.
