L3Harris Flies Viper Shield on F-16s in Dual-Aircraft Evaluation

L3Harris Technologies, Inc. has conducted the first flight tests of its Viper Shield electronic warfare system involving two aircraft simultaneously. The evaluations were performed using F-16C and F-16D fighters at Edwards Air Force Base. The tests are part of the ongoing development effort to integrate the pod-based system onto the Fighting Falcon platform.

Viper Shield is designed to provide aircraft with electronic protection capabilities. By flying two jets together, the company aimed to demonstrate the system’s performance in a formation environment, which differs structurally from single-ship sorties. The work at Edwards serves to validate the hardware and software integration on the F-16 airframe.

L3Harris currently operates through three primary business segments: Space & Mission Systems, Communications & Spectrum Dominance, and Missile Solutions. The Viper Shield technology aligns with the company’s portfolio of spectrum dominance and avionics modernization programs aimed at extending the relevance of fourth-generation aircraft.
