L3Harris Conducts Viper Shield Electronic Warfare Tests on F-16 Variants

L3Harris Technologies has successfully completed flight testing of its Viper Shield electronic warfare (EW) system aboard F-16C and D model aircraft. The trials, conducted with industry partners, were designed to validate the system’s integration and performance on the older generation of the Fighting Falcon airframe.

The Viper Shield system is an internal electronic countermeasures suite intended to protect aircraft from radar-based threats. Unlike legacy systems that may require external pod-mounted configurations, Viper Shield is designed to fit within the airframe, potentially preserving aerodynamic performance and reducing drag.

L3Harris operates through several business segments, including Communications & Spectrum Dominance, which focuses on systems designed to operate within the electromagnetic spectrum. The successful testing on the C and D models highlights the company’s strategy to upgrade existing fleets with modern capabilities.
