L3Harris Conducts Initial Dual-Aircraft Viper Shield Trial for F-16 Fleet

L3Harris Technologies, Inc. has successfully executed the first flight test of its Viper Shield electronic warfare system involving two F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft simultaneously. The event marks a progression from single-ship evaluation to coordinated testing, demonstrating the system’s functionality within a multi-ship environment.

The Viper Shield is designed to provide electronic protection and situational awareness for the F-16 platform. By moving to two-ship testing, the evaluation aims to validate how the system performs when multiple aircraft are operating in tandem, a critical factor for modern combat aviation which relies heavily on formation tactics.

Developed under the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) framework as an upgrade for international F-16 users, the system is intended to enhance the aircraft’s ability to detect and counter radar-based threats. This latest test follows previous milestones where the hardware was integrated and flown on a single jet.
