L3Harris Technologies, Inc. has completed a significant technical benchmark for the U.S. missile defense architecture, executing a successful hot-fire test for the Next Generation Interceptor (NGI) program. The test event marks a critical step forward in the development timeline of the weapon system designed to defend against ballistic missile threats.
During the trial, the company validated the performance of the propulsion system and related hardware under operational conditions. This specific evaluation is intended to verify the functionality of the thrusters and control mechanisms that are essential for the interceptor’s ability to maneuver in flight. The NGI program is a key element of the Ground-based Midcourse Defense system, intended to replace older interceptor inventory.
