L3Harris Contributes Hardware Integration to NASA’s Roman Observatory

Engineers at L3Harris Technologies, Inc. have supported the hardware assembly for the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, a high-priority astrophysics mission managed by NASA. The team, based at the company’s Rochester, New York facility, assisted with the integration of the telescope’s Optical Telescope Assembly (OTA). This system is designed to collect and focus light, enabling the observatory to survey wide swaths of the sky with high resolution.

The contribution falls under the company’s Space & Mission Systems (SMS) segment, which focuses on integrating complex payloads for national security and scientific exploration. The Roman telescope is intended to complement other orbiting observatories by possessing a field of view at least 100 times larger than current instruments, allowing scientists to gather data on dark energy and exoplanets.

Shares of L3Harris were trading lower on the day, with the stock down approximately 0.16% from the previous close. The company, which operates within the Industrials sector and the Aerospace & Defense industry, maintains a market capitalization of approximately $51.6 billion.

What to watch

  • Future milestones regarding the Roman Space Telescope’s launch schedule and environmental testing.
  • Upcoming quarterly earnings reports from L3Harris for performance within the Space & Mission Systems segment.
  • Contract announcements related to additional spaceflight hardware or government integration services.
