L3Harris Continues Expansion Within U.S. Navy Electronic Warfare Portfolio

L3Harris Technologies (NYSE: LHX) is broadening its footprint in a U.S. Navy electronic warfare program, according to reporting highlighted by Yahoo Finance. Electronic warfare (EW) refers to systems that use the electromagnetic spectrum for sensing, communications, and countermeasures — a segment of defence spending that has drawn sustained attention in recent budget discussions.

The Melbourne, Florida-based company already maintains a substantial EW and spectrum-related business, housed within its Communications & Spectrum Dominance segment. That unit is one of three reporting divisions at L3Harris, alongside Space & Mission Systems and Missile Solutions, serving government and commercial customers worldwide.

Deepening involvement in a Navy program of record offers the company a recurring revenue stream tied to a long-lived platform, since electronic warfare systems typically require ongoing upgrades, sustainment, and integration work across the life of the underlying fleet. While the latest report does not disclose contract values, participation in Navy EW efforts positions L3Harris among a relatively small group of suppliers with the specialised engineering base to compete for such work.

Market reaction to the news was muted. Shares of L3Harris Technologies traded at $261.31, down 1.39% from the prior close of $265.00, giving the company a market capitalisation of approximately $48.78 billion. LHX sits in the industrials sector within the aerospace and defence industry.

For L3Harris, the development fits a broader pattern among defence primes of pivoting toward software-defined, upgradeable systems rather than one-time hardware deliveries. Spectrum-related programs are frequently emphasised in Pentagon modernisation priorities, which can translate into multi-year funding visibility for incumbent contractors.

The company has been reshaping its portfolio in recent years, divesting non-core businesses and consolidating around mission-focused segments. Continued Navy EW work reinforces the strategic weight of the Communications & Spectrum Dominance division within that structure.

What to watch

  • Navy budget submissions and appropriations language tied to electronic warfare line items
  • Any subsequent contract announcements or modifications related to the program
  • Company guidance updates on backlog and funded orders
