South Korean Brokerage Rolls Out Structured Notes Linked to Palantir and Broadcom Shares

Shinyoung Securities has introduced a new equity-linked note tied to the share performance of two prominent technology names — Broadcom and Palantir Technologies — according to a report by TipRanks. The structured products are being marketed in South Korea and are characterized as high-risk instruments, meaning returns depend heavily on how the underlying stocks perform over the life of the notes.

Equity-linked notes (ELNs) are derivative-based products that pay investors a return linked to the price movement of one or more underlying equities, sometimes with conditions that can result in losses if the stocks fall below specified thresholds. South Korean brokerages have frequently issued such notes around high-profile technology shares, and the inclusion of Palantir — a company whose customer base spans government and commercial clients — reflects continued investor interest in defence-adjacent software firms.

Palantir, which develops software platforms used by intelligence and government agencies, saw its shares trading at $169.46, down 5.88% from the prior close of $180.05. The company carries a market capitalization of approximately $426.5 billion and is classified within the technology sector, in the software-infrastructure industry. The stock’s recent decline underscores the kind of volatility that structured products linked to it can carry, a factor typically flagged in the risk disclosures accompanying high-risk ELN offerings.

The move by Shinyoung Securities comes as retail demand for exposure to artificial intelligence and defence-linked technology companies remains elevated in Asian markets. Structured notes tied to individual US-listed equities allow investors in jurisdictions where direct access may be limited to gain synthetic exposure, though they also embed issuer credit risk and, in many structures, capped upside or principal loss scenarios.

Broadcom, the other underlying, is a semiconductor and infrastructure software company whose shares have been widely used as an underlying in Asian structured products over the past year.

What to watch

  • Palantir’s upcoming quarterly earnings report and any updates to guidance, which could move the underlying shares referenced by the notes.
  • Further ELN issuance from South Korean brokerages referencing US defence-technology names.
  • Price volatility in Palantir and Broadcom shares during the notes’ observation periods.
