L3Harris Technologies said it has completed the first 35 Viper Shield electronic warfare (EW) systems built for the international F-16 community, a milestone in the company’s effort to modernize one of the world’s most widely flown fighter aircraft.
Viper Shield is a digital EW suite designed to fit inside the F-16’s existing structure, giving operators updated situational-awareness and self-protection functionality without requiring major airframe changes. Electronic warfare refers to onboard systems that detect and manage threats in the electromagnetic spectrum. Because the F-16 is flown by air forces around the world, upgrade programs of this kind are typically aimed at a broad base of international customers rather than a single national fleet.
The completion of the initial 35 units marks the transition from development into early production for the program. For L3Harris, which reports it operates through segments including Space & Mission Systems and Communications & Spectrum Dominance, the effort sits within a portfolio of airborne EW and avionics work. Electronic warfare has been a growing line of business across the defence industry as governments direct funding toward aircraft survivability upgrades.
In afternoon trading, L3Harris shares changed hands at $262.14, up 0.09% from the prior close of $261.91, valuing the company at roughly $48.8 billion.
