L3Harris wraps up initial production run of F-16 Viper Shield electronic warfare suites

L3Harris Technologies has completed the first production batch of its Viper Shield electronic warfare (EW) systems for the F-16 fighter aircraft, according to a report by Airforce Technology. The milestone marks the transition of the programme from development into initial delivery of hardware.

Viper Shield is a digital EW suite designed to be integrated into the F-16, one of the most widely operated fighter aircraft in the world. Electronic warfare systems of this type are intended to help aircrews detect and respond to radar-based threats, and the system is built for retrofit into existing aircraft as well as installation on newer production lines. Completing a first batch indicates that manufacturing and quality processes have progressed to the point of delivering fielded units.

For L3Harris Technologies, the completion of the first lot underscores the company’s positioning in the airborne EW market, a segment where it has built a substantial portfolio alongside its broader communications, space and missile businesses. The company is organised around three segments — Space & Mission Systems, Communications & Spectrum Dominance, and Missile Solutions — and advanced electronics for defence platforms sit at the core of its offering.

The company’s shares closed the most recent session at $257.17, down 1.81% from the prior close of $261.91, giving a market capitalisation of approximately $48.8 billion. The stock trades in the industrials sector, within the aerospace and defence industry.

The F-16 fleet continues to receive upgrades across many operator nations, and EW modernisation is among the most common enhancement paths for legacy airframes. Programmes of this kind typically run through multiple production lots, with delivery schedules, integration work and follow-on orders determining the longer-term scope of the work. The completion of this first batch positions the programme for subsequent phases, though the company and its customers have not detailed the size or timing of any follow-on quantities in the reported coverage.

No new financial guidance or contract values were disclosed in connection with the announcement.
