GE Aerospace Moves to Acquire Engine Component Maker CPP in $11.75 Billion Deal

GE Aerospace Moves to Acquire Engine Component Maker CPP in $11.75 Billion Deal

GE Aerospace has agreed to acquire CPP, a key supplier of engine components, in a transaction valued at $11.75 billion, according to a report from The Journal Record. The deal would deepen the company’s control over its supply chain for jet propulsion systems at a time when aircraft engine demand remains strong across both commercial and defence programs.

Vertical integration has become a recurring theme among aerospace primes, as manufacturers work to secure component capacity and manage delivery timelines. Bringing a major supplier in-house can reduce dependence on external vendors and give the acquirer more direct oversight of production quality and output. For GE Aerospace, whose engine portfolio supports a wide range of aircraft, the purchase of CPP represents one of the larger supplier acquisitions the sector has seen in recent years.

Market reaction to the news appeared muted. Shares of GE Aerospace traded at $334.91, down 0.62% from the prior close of $337.00, giving the company a market capitalization of roughly $347.5 billion.

The transaction is subject to customary regulatory review, and large-scale aerospace acquisitions of this size typically face scrutiny from competition authorities given the consolidated nature of the engine supply base. Companies in the defence and aerospace space have generally navigated such reviews by committing to divestitures or structural safeguards where overlaps exist.

For suppliers across the sector, the deal underscores the premium that primes are willing to pay for critical component capabilities. Aerostructures and engine parts makers have been consolidation targets as larger companies seek to lock in capacity amid rising aircraft production rates and sustained government demand for propulsion systems.

Neither the purchase price breakdown nor the expected closing timeline was detailed in the initial report, and GE Aerospace is expected to provide further information as the transaction progresses through review.

What to watch

  • Regulatory filings and antitrust review milestones associated with the CPP acquisition.
  • GE Aerospace’s next quarterly earnings report, where management may discuss deal financing and integration plans.
  • Any updates on expected closing timelines or required divestitures.
  • Broader supply-chain acquisition activity among aerospace and defence primes.
