L3Harris Secures $4.7 Billion Agreement for PAC-3 MSE Motor Production
L3Harris Technologies has been awarded a contract valued at approximately $4.7 billion to supply propulsion systems for the Patriot Advanced Capability-3 Missile Segment Enhancement (PAC-3 MSE) interceptor, according to a report by The Defense Post.
The deal covers rocket motors used in the PAC-3 MSE, a hit-to-kill interceptor designed as part of the Patriot air and missile defence family. Propulsion hardware is a core component of the missile, and large multi-year agreements of this kind are typically structured to stabilise the industrial supply chain and support sustained production rates.
For L3Harris, the award aligns with its Missile Solutions segment, one of three business units the company reports alongside Space & Mission Systems and Communications & Spectrum Dominance. The company describes itself as a provider of mission-critical solutions for government and commercial customers worldwide.
Market reaction appeared muted. Shares of L3Harris (LHX) traded at $252.52, down 1.26% from the prior close of $255.74, giving the company a market capitalisation of roughly $48.8 billion. The stock sits in the Industrials sector within the Aerospace & Defense industry.
Large propulsion contracts for the PAC-3 MSE programme reflect continued demand for ground-based air defence systems, which have drawn substantial procurement interest from the US government and international partners in recent years. Multi-year arrangements allow suppliers to order long-lead materials in advance and give customers pricing visibility across several fiscal years.
L3Harris has been expanding its role across the missile and munitions value chain, and propulsion has become a growing focus area for the company as it reorganises its portfolio around mission segments. The PAC-3 MSE motor work adds to a backlog of solid rocket motor activity across the US defence industrial base, where several primes have invested in expanded capacity.
What to watch
- L3Harris’s upcoming quarterly earnings, where management may detail the contract’s contribution to backlog and segment revenue.
- Any subsequent announcements on production capacity investments related to solid rocket motors.
- PAC-3 programme procurement decisions in future US defence budget requests.
