L3Harris Set to Supply VAMPIRE Counter-Drone Systems to the US Navy

L3Harris Technologies has announced that it will provide its VAMPIRE counter-unmanned aircraft system to the US Navy, adding to the platform’s growing list of military customers. VAMPIRE — short for Vehicle-Agnostic Modular Palletized ISR/Electronic Warfare — is a bolt-on kit designed to detect and defeat small drones, and can be installed on a range of vehicles without extensive integration work.

The system pairs soft-kill electronic warfare measures with hard-kill capabilities, allowing operators to counter small unmanned aerial systems (sUAS) — a threat category that has risen sharply in prominence across recent conflicts. Its palletized design means it can be rapidly fielded and moved between platforms, a feature that has driven interest from multiple service branches.

L3Harris, headquartered in Melbourne, Florida, is one of the largest US defence primes, reporting through three main segments: Space & Mission Systems, Communications & Spectrum Dominance, and Missile Solutions. The company has positioned counter-unmanned systems as a growth area as the Pentagon and allied militaries increase spending on drone defence.

In market activity, L3Harris shares (NYSE: LHX) traded at $252.52, down 1.26% from the previous close of $255.74, valuing the company at roughly $48.8 billion. The stock’s dip came on a broadly softer day for aerospace and defence names, and the Navy award was not cited as a factor.

Counter-drone demand has become one of the faster-growing line items in US defence budgets, with the Navy, Army, and Marine Corps each pursuing layered solutions against small drones. For primes like L3Harris, modular systems such as VAMPIRE offer a path to recurring production revenue and follow-on sustainment work. The company has previously delivered VAMPIRE systems to the US Army and to Ukraine under prior security assistance packages, building a production base that newer orders can draw upon.
