Palantir Shares Have Climbed More Than 1,700% Since Going Public — Here’s Where the Stock Stands Today

Palantir Technologies, the data-analytics software firm with deep roots in government and defence work, has delivered one of the most striking stock performances among publicly traded technology companies since its direct listing in 2020. Its shares have risen more than 1,700% since the company’s initial public offering, according to a recent Yahoo Finance analysis that examined the stock’s trajectory and future prospects.

Despite the dramatic multi-year climb, Palantir’s shares were essentially flat in trading on Palantir Technologies stock, changing hands at $170.50 — down a mere 0.07% from the previous close of $170.62. The company’s market capitalisation stands at approximately $439.7 billion, placing it among the largest software companies listed on US exchanges.

Palantir, classified in the software-infrastructure segment of the technology sector, built its early business on platforms serving intelligence and government customers. Its flagship Gotham platform, which integrates with other data systems, supports analytics work for government agencies in the United States, the United Kingdom, and allied nations. In recent years the company has broadened its commercial reach, expanding its artificial-intelligence-oriented offerings to corporate clients alongside its long-standing public-sector base.

The 1,700%-plus gain reflects a broader re-rating of defence-adjacent software companies as investors have rewarded firms positioned at the intersection of government spending and enterprise artificial intelligence. Palantir’s market value now exceeds $400 billion — a figure that underscores how far the stock has travelled since its debut at a reference price of $10 a share in September 2020.

That scale has also drawn scrutiny. Analysts continue to debate how the company’s valuation aligns with its growth rate, and the stock has been prone to sharp swings around earnings announcements and contract news. As with any company at this market capitalisation, incremental gains become harder to achieve in percentage terms, and investor attention has turned to the durability of Palantir’s commercial segment growth and the pace of new government awards.

For now, the stock’s day-to-day movements remain muted compared with its long-run ascent, with Tuesday’s near-flat trading a contrast to the volatility that has characterised much of the company’s public-market life.

What to watch

  • Palantir’s upcoming quarterly earnings report, particularly US commercial revenue growth and updated guidance
  • New government and defence contract announcements, which have historically moved the stock
  • Any updates on the company’s expansion of its artificial-intelligence platform offerings
