Avelo expands McKinney base with four new US routes ahead of airport’s opening
US ultra-low-cost carrier is expanding its upcoming base at McKinney National airport in Texas, adding four destinations and basing a third Boeing 737-800 ahead of its commercial launch.
Avelo Airlines will add nonstop flights from McKinney National airport to Atlanta, Denver, Nashville and New Orleans in December 2026, expanding its planned network from the North Texas facility to nine routes ahead of the new airport’s planned opening in November.
The commitment comes ahead of the Houston-headquartered carrier’s inaugural passenger flights from McKinney on 11 November 2026, when it will begin service to Las Vegas and four destinations in Florida: Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Orlando and Tampa.
To support the expansion, Avelo will base a third 184-seat Boeing 737-800 at the airport, creating about 150 local jobs.
“The response from North Texas has been extraordinary, and the bookings back that up,” says Avelo chief executive Andrew Levy. “Adding four new destinations and a third based aircraft further cements our commitment to Collin County.”
Starting 16 December 2026, Avelo will operate four weekly flights to Denver and Atlanta. On 17 December, the airline will introduce twice-weekly services to New Orleans and Nashville.
McKinney, located in rapidly growing Collin County, is opening a new 46,000sq ft (4,270sq m) passenger terminal with four gates designed to accommodate up to 200,000 passengers annually. The facility aims to offer a low-congestion alternative to Dallas/Fort Worth International airport and Dallas Love Field.
“This new service reflects the demand for convenient air travel closer to home and reinforces McKinney’s position as a destination for residents, businesses, and investment,” says McKinney mayor Bill Cox.
The launch of commercial service follows years of local political debate and legal friction over airport funding. City officials maintain that ongoing litigation will not disrupt the planned start of flights in November.
