GE Aerospace inks Polish turboshaft MRO pact

Agreement covers T700 and CT7 family of helicopter engines.
GE Aerospace and Polish aerospace firm WZL-1 have entered into a pact for the local support of helicopter engines.

The MRO agreement covers T700 and CT7 turboshafts that power rotorcraft such as the Boeing AH-64 Apache attack helicopter, Sikorsky S-70i Black Hawk, Leonardo AW149, and AW101 — all types ordered or operated by Poland — says GE Aerospace.

WZL-1, also known as Military Aviation Works No.1, is undertaking the MRO work as part of a localisation commitment related to Warsaw’s orders for 96 Apaches.

The work will be carried out at WZL-1’s Deblin facility.

“This agreement represents a significant milestone in the development of Poland’s sovereign MRO capabilities for T700 and CT7 engines,” says WZL-1 chief executive Jacek Goszczynski.

“The competencies gained through this partnership will enable us to support the long-term readiness of the AH-64E Apache fleet and other critical platforms operated by the Polish armed forces.

“At the same time, it strengthens national security, advances the capabilities of the Polish defence industrial base, and solidifies WZL-1’s role as a strategic partner in the support of advanced aviation systems.”

The GE Aerospace announcement follows a similar pact in August, where Boeing entered industrial co-operation agreements with Polish parties including WZL-1 related to the Apache order.

In March, Lockheed Martin and WZL-1 signed an agreement covering local MRO support for the AH-64E’s sensors.
