Aegean Airlines names new chief executive as Gerogiannis steps down

October 12, 2026 · by DPW Pipeline

The Greek carrier’s chief financial officer and deputy CEO, Michalis Kouveliotis, has assumed the top role with immediate effect.
Aegean Airlines chief executive Dimitris Gerogiannis has resigned from his position and has been replaced by the carrier’s deputy and finance chief, Michalis Kouveliotis.

Gerogiannis has led Aegean for 20 years and was a founding officer of the company. He will continue to support the airline during what it describes as a transition to “the next generation of leadership”.

Kouveliotis has held the position of chief financial officer since Aegean’s listing on the Athens stock exchange in 2007. He has also served as deputy chief executive since early last year.

Gerogiannis “will continue to support Aegean as it moves forward from its founding leadership team to the next generation of executives”, says the carrier’s chairman Eftichios Vassilakis, adding that his successor “has already demonstrated his ability to support the company through both periods of growth and crisis”.

“Our key objective should be to empower and further develop the collaboration between the company’s second generation of executives, building on the legacy of our founding team as they gradually step back,” says Vassilakis.

“We must preserve our core values of service quality and agility, renew our momentum in our new product and network destination development as well as the growth of new talent with even closer teamwork.”

Aegean last month said it would take a more cautious approach to capacity growth over the coming quarters, after reporting a first-half net loss of €3.3 million ($3.7 million), which compared with a €47.9 million profit in the first six months of 2025.
