Qantas boosts freighter fleet with additional A321P2Fs
The new A321P2Fs will replace older BAE 146-300 freighters.
Qantas Freight is to add three more Airbus A321 passenger-to-freighter (A321P2F) aircraft, as it ramps up its partnership with national postal services company Australia Post.
The first of three additional A321P2Fs (registered VH-XF7) is already in service with Qantas Freight, and the other two jets will be delivered by March 2027.
All three aircraft are operated on behalf of Australia Post and will be deployed on domestic cargo flights, including from the newly-opened Western Sydney International airport, which has already begun 24-hour cargo operations ahead of passenger services on 25 October.
The new freighters come ahead of the year-end peak delivery season, which includes Black Friday and Christmas, and will “add up to 20% capacity across its dedicated freighter fleet”, says Qantas.
The A321P2Fs replace the smaller BAE 146-300s, of which Qantas Freight has three examples in its fleet. The larger Airbus jets offer more than twice the cargo capacity of the BAE 146s, the carrier notes.
VH-XF7 formerly operated in passenger configuration for China Southern Airlines, which first took delivery of the jet in 2007. Earlier in 2026, it was withdrawn from use and sent for freighter conversion works.
Qantas Freight is the launch operator of the A321P2F, having taken delivery of its first example in 2020. It now has seven A321P2Fs in its fleet, including the latest delivery.
