Five UK Police Forces Reportedly Set to Drop Palantir Data Platform

A report published by the newsletter Democracy for Sale indicates that five police forces plan to discontinue their use of Palantir’s data-analysis platform, adding a public-sector wrinkle to the commercial profile of one of the most closely watched software companies in the defence and government technology space.

Palantir Technologies Inc. (NYSE: PLTR) is best known for its Gotham platform, a data-integration tool used by intelligence and law-enforcement agencies in the United States, the United Kingdom and elsewhere to link information from disparate sources. The company also serves commercial customers through its Foundry and Artificial Intelligence Platform (AIP) offerings.

The newsletter’s report did not detail the reasons behind the forces’ decisions, and the company has not commented publicly on the report. However, reduced uptake among policing customers would mark a shift in a sector — public safety analytics — that has long been part of Palantir’s founding identity. The company was established to serve the intelligence community, and government work in defence and national security still anchors much of its revenue base.

For context, Palantir’s shares traded at $170.50 in recent action, down a marginal 0.07% from the prior close of $170.62, giving the Denver-based company a market capitalisation of roughly $439.7 billion. The stock has been among the most volatile large-cap names in the technology sector, with investors weighing the company’s rapid government-contract pipeline against its high valuation relative to traditional infrastructure software peers.

Losses of individual policing contracts — particularly at the level of regional forces rather than national agencies — are generally small in financial terms relative to Palantir’s total bookings, which include large multi-year defence agreements. Industry observers tend to watch such developments less for their immediate revenue impact and more for what they signal about public-sector procurement attitudes toward data-sharing platforms, an area that has attracted sustained scrutiny from civil-liberties groups and policymakers on both sides of the Atlantic.

Palantir’s business has diversified in recent years, with commercial revenue growing alongside its traditional government segment and the company positioning its AI platforms as a bridge between the two. The UK remains a significant market for the company beyond policing, including defence and health-sector engagements.

The report has not been independently confirmed by the forces named, and it remains to be seen whether any departures affect renewals elsewhere.

What to watch

  • Whether Palantir comments on or disputes the report in the UK policing market.
  • Any official statements from the police forces concerned or UK procurement bodies on data-platform contracts.
  • Palantir’s next quarterly earnings release, for segment commentary on government and commercial revenue mix.
  • Broader UK public-sector review outcomes involving data-integration and AI software suppliers.
