Kazakhstan air force welcomes its second A400M airlifter

New platform will support defence and humanitarian relief tasks conducted by central Asian nation.
Airbus Defence & Space has delivered the second of Kazakhstan’s A400M Atlas tactical transports.

Pictured departing the airframer’s San Pablo final assembly site near Seville, Spain, the airlifter sports a gloss-grey finish and the service number 22, partially concealed beneath a temporary flight-test registration.

Aviation analytics company Cirium records the newly-transferred airlifter as A400M production aircraft MSN153.

The Kazakh defence ministry on 2 November released an image on X of the four-engined type as it arrived in Almaty.

“Operating alongside Kazakhstan’s fleet of nine [Airbus] C295 aircraft, the A400Ms strengthen national defence, humanitarian aid and UN peacekeeping reach,” the airframer says.

The Kazakhstan air force took receipt of its first A400M (21/MSN139) in December 2024.

Kazakhstan becomes the eighth nation to complete its A400M inventory against confirmed orders, following Belgium, Germany, Indonesia, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Turkey and the UK.

Cirium data indicates that the European programme now has a total production backlog of 37 aircraft, supporting remaining commitments for France (24) and Spain (13). Airbus continues to target potential further sales to extend output, including via a proposed NATO pooling concept outlined in July and supported by seven alliance members.
